BRIC involved in breast cancer charity event – More Than Aware 2nd Annual Family Fun Run/Walk
Recently, BRIC Language Systems volunteered at More Than Aware’s 2nd Annual Family Fun Walk/Run. It was our second time participating in the charity event, as we also volunteered last May 2013.
More Than Aware is great organization that raises awareness about breast cancer, though they take it one step further and also promote a healthy lifestyle. The organization puts it best on their website: “More Than Aware inspires, educates and empowers women to become MORE, through its Proactive Prevention, Wellness from Within, Sisterhood Support programs and living a green and healthy life style.”
The fun run/walk took place last weekend in Century Park, the same venue as last year’s fundraiser. We had a booth where we provided fun activities and goodies for the families present! Despite the rainy weather, it was a great turn out, with estimates of 5,000 participants; including cancer survivors and ‘thrivers’!
Our friends at Jelly Belly provided sweets and prizes for the children! We had the bean-bag toss game, typically referred to as ‘corn-hole’, set up for the kids and gave cool ceramic, Jelly Belly piggy banks for the winners. BRIC Language Systems also gave people the opportunity to learn some Chinese, with some calligraphy lessons. The kids learned first to write characters in a sand-board, then moved over to write with on traditional, folding Chinese fans with brush and ink!
It was a great day with lots of encouragement and people trying to make a difference! Like last year, the event ended with an exciting zumba dance!
