An Intro to Shanghai
China’s largest city by population, Shanghai is a global melting pot of culture, industry and financial growth. With a name that is literally translated “on the sea”, Shanghai sits directly on the banks of both the East China Sea and the Huangpu River. This is a city rich in diversity, creativity and opportunity that serves as the largest base of Chinese industrial technology and draws attention from all over the world.
What is SUFE?
Founded in 1917, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) is a multi-dimensional university focusing on applied economics and management with theoretical economics as its basis. This premier University is an incubator for innovative international programs. As the first Chinese university to offer a Business Chinese program for international students in Shanghai, SUFE remains the only one offering multi-level programs and were the first to offer both MBA and EMBA programs. A long standing tradition of innovation, cooperation and commitment to excellence has put SUFE at the forefront of international business education in China.
This is a cutting-edge program that combines the talents of SUFE, a top tier Chinese university, and BRIC Language Learning, an award-winning language and cultural training company, for a truly unique experience-based learning environment. The program is a full semester long program lasting 16 weeks with 4 weeks of language and business training followed by a 12-week internship.
Get a leg up on your post-graduation competition by learning Mandarin. While an internship and semester abroad in China is a great resume enhancer, it’s not complete without a knowledge of Mandarin. When it comes to your long-term career, speaking the language is a total game changer. The main reason for the founding of BRIC and the driving force of this partnership was the understanding that speaking Mandarin is essential for young Americans desiring a career in China. This program includes 24 hours of online instruction prior to arrival as well as 92 class hours of additional instruction once you’ve arrived. Our teachers have undergone extensive training and our approach is needs based training. You learn more quickly when studying subjects that you’re interested in. With this proven system, you’ll be speaking with your Chinese colleagues in no time.
After 4 weeks of intensive language training, you’ll have 12 weeks of a full-time internship in a local Chinese business or international company in Shanghai – 100% immersion in the real business environment. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be fluent in Mandarin. All of our placements have English speaking staff and management. Internship placement is based on your educational background, degree, and most importantly your desired career path. We typically pair you with jobs at fast paced “established startups” that are growing and have a track record of success. This enables you to be involved with real world projects and see those projects come to fruition. We work with many multinationals and regardless what type of company you’re placed with, there are no “gophers” internships.

What Makes Us Unique
Based on years of teaching experience, we recognize that you want, and need, more than just classroom learning. That is the basis of both our partnership and our unique program. In order to be successful in the future, you need practical training in business, also known as “experiential learning.” Based on both the needs and feedback of current and former students, we have meticulously designed a Business Chinese Program – China Business Immersion & Internship Program (CBIIP). In addition to our various in-class learning activities, we have scheduled several site visits to local and multinational companies based in Shanghai and will have guest lectures given by both Chinese and international scholars and business leaders.
The Four Cornerstones of our Program
1. PRIME LOCATION
We are located in Shanghai, the financial center of China. Home to more than 600 multinational corporate headquarters, Shanghai has the largest GDP of any city in China and boasts an economy larger than those of 155 entire countries. Being in Shanghai places you directly in the heart of the Chinese business world.
2. EXTENSIVE TEACHING EXPERIENCE
As the first university to launch a Business Chinese Program, with our customized courses allowing you to obtain a more robust vocabulary and specialized knowledge of business practices.
3. FOCUS ON PRACTICAL USE IN BUSINESS
We provide you with the opportunity to develop a profound knowledge of the Chinese business environment through both our business lectures and corporate visits. This allows you to acquire real life business knowledge in a real-world setting. Here you will see firsthand how factories are run and how businesses of every industry are operated.
4. HIGH QUALITY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
In addition to studying at this premier University, you will work full-time in a 3-month internship at a local entrepreneurial business or a multi-national company operating in Shanghai.
